More REAL Information on the Stimulus & Green Buildings As mentioned in previous issues, we have made it our mission to sort through all of the 'babble' in an attempt to bring you, our customers and friends, the 'real deal.' Since our last release, organizations and manufacturers have begun to enter the fray, offering some solid information on the where's and how's of tapping in to the stimulus money.
In this issue I've included links to information released by ASHRAE, as well as some other stuff I hope you'll find useful.
I hope you'll stay tuned to these newsletters. You may find them helpful. If so, let us know and we'll stay on this path. If not, let us know and we'll try to do it better.

Energy Auditing Tools
Energy audits can come in as many flavors as ice cream at your local Baskin & Robbins store. As the dog with the wooden leg said when he was leaving the forest, "There are more trees in there than you can shake a stick at!" For information on the various tools available, the best place to start is with the Department of Energy's Energy Star Program. Energy Star has put together an portfolio of assessment tools that can help, whether you are trying to benchmark one building or several buildings in various geographic areas. In addition to their own assessment tools, through the Energy Star site you can link to a library of other on-line assessment tools. By exploring this buffet of options, you may find exactly what you're looking for. Start your search here.

Expand or Replace the BAS? Five Issues to Consider By James Piper, P.E. May 2008
For more than two decades, building automation systems have been shown to be valuable for a wide range of facility types. During this time, systems have vastly expanded in both capacity and capability. Interoperability has allowed standalone systems to be merged into a single, comprehensive system. Wireless technology has helped to reduce installation costs while increasing system flexibility. Advances in computer technology have slashed equipment costs while vastly improving system performance. Software improvements have made the systems easier to use. Read more.
E-Mon Submeters Save Energy and Cut Cost - Across the Facility Landscape
The type of energy data needed by today's sophisticated facility is beyond the capability of the master utility meter, which provides a broad indication of consumption (kWh) and demand (kW), but not the level of load profiling needed for:
- Allocating energy cost to specific lease spaces, circuits or buildings;
- Profiling entire facility for demand management, load shedding and energy initiative compliance;
- Aggregating energy demand/use for bulk energy contracts in deregulated markets;
- Deploying demand response/control to avoid costly ratchet charges;
- Implementing Cost allocation; tenant billing, equipment performance diagnostics and more.

Would anyone care for some Marriott Points?
I checked in to the hotel at about 9 PM. Upon entering my room I found someone else's luggage there. I called the "at your service" people who said they would send a bellman up to pick up the other luggage. 15 minutes passed. Upon further inspection I found another piece of luggage in the room which was not mine. I called the front desk to find out who else was registered in the room. The desk assured me that no one else was registered to my room. They told me that a bellman would be dispatched to pick up the luggage which was mistakenly left in the room by a bellman. It is now 10 PM and I find that the facial towels have been used (make-up smudges) and there are clothes hanging in the closet. I contact the front desk, who insist that no one else is checked in to the room, but they will send a bellman up with a key to a new room to move me, as I am uncomfortable staying in the initially assigned room. It is now 10:15 PM. Read more.
